Myrtle is an evergreen, aromatic shrub native to the East. Spice and medicinal species. The leaf from which oil and berries are obtained is used – various liqueurs, champagne, jellies, and spices are made and dried, and ground berries are used to make flour. Fresh berries can be added to many dishes or barbecue as a spice. A fresh leaf can also be added to brandy due to its specific aroma. The essential oil acts as an antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory, for cleaning the airways and strengthening the gums, and acts against stomach problems. The oil increases concentration, and self-confidence and wakes up. It is considered a sacred plant, a symbol of love and immortality. It can be kept as a decorative shrub and is also used to form bonsai.


Propagation: By seeds/cuttings

Pre-treatment: 2-4 weeks in the refrigerator speed up germination.

Sowing: All year  round (in an acidic substrate), depth of about 0.5 cm

Germination: Temperature above 25C, germinates in 4-8 weeks, constant humidity of the substrate is necessary.

Location: Direct light

Hardiness zone: 8b: to -9.4 °C (15 °F)
