Description
Family: Cucurbitaceae
Genus: Cucumis
Species: Melo
Surinam heritage in extinction, that is. the seed was only available to members of the Seed Savers and the Consortium for Rare Breeding Seeds but does not appear to have survived. We sowed the seeds quite late, in the middle of July ( we are in Zone 6 ), which was enough to get only 3 fruits, but enough to save seeds. All the fruits are identical in shape – a triangle with ribs, by far the most beautiful and strangest melon we have grown so far. Its taste is similar to the cantaloup melon, the fruit weighs about 2 kg.
