Brassica oleracea
Pre-1860 variety. Light green skin and dark green leaves with crisp white flesh, tender and sweet. Excellent flavour can be eaten raw or cooked. Good in salads, soups, and stews. Young leaves can be used in salads or steamed. Vegetation 50-65 days, best harvested at 2½” diameter. Slow to bolt and early producing.
Sowing: Best grown in cooler weather. Sow seeds outdoors as soon as soil can be worked and danger of hard frost has passed. Can also be started indoors and transplanted out. Plant in full sun or partial shade. Kohlrabi is also an excellent fall crop.
