Rare stem lettuce from China. The plants are as easy as lettuce to cultivate, and the culinary possibilities are boundless as it is great cooked or raw. Content high levels of vitamin C and is very nutritional. Stems are crisp and fresh-similar to cucumber-used fresh or cooked, leaves are picked and used like normal lettuce.
This plant should be planted in the early spring or fall, 40-60 days before the first frost.
Sow outdoors March – July, at two-weekly intervals for successional crops, or under cloches from January 1.5cm (½in) deep. Row spacing 25-30cm (10-12in) apart. Thin out to 25cm(10in) apart. Keep well watered and weed free.
Harvest: July – October, April from January sowing.
