Description

Family: Boraginaceae
Genus: Borago
Species: Officinalis

Borage is an ornamental and medicinal, edible annual plant of bushy growth. It grows wild in Central and Eastern Europe and is grown all over the world. Borage has an incredibly wide application both as a medicinal plant and in cooking. The flowers and leaves of the plant are also used. The flowers can be dried, frozen, or crystallized. The taste is refreshing and reminiscent of the taste of cucumber. Borage is also used in cosmetics – it is added to face masks for dry skin, and as a medicinal plant, it helps the most with fever and infections. Borage contains high amounts of calcium, potassium, and mineral salts. It also helps in the absorption of iron. It is good with a salt-free diet. Vegetable wraps soothe inflammation and swelling. It increases milk production in breastfeeding mothers, and some believe that it also has aphrodisiac properties! If the Borage is planted next to tomato, the fruit will be much tastier.  Attracts bees and beneficial insects
