Heirloom from India. This variety is growing as an herb and as an ornamental. This plant grows 80cm high and wide, and the leaves of this basil taste like licorice, flowers are intensely deep purple. The taste is a spicy bite of strong anise flavor mixed in with the familiar basil taste. If you are growing Siam Queen basil to use in cooking, you should pinch off the buds before they flower.
