Pea Avola

Family: Papilionaceae
Genus: Pisum
Species: Sativum var. macrocarpon

A first early freezer type, also used for fresh picking. Large seeded with full foliage. Regular picking will encourage further cropping.

Direct sow pea seeds outside in the garden between March to May. Prepare a flat bottom drill 5cm (2in) deep and 10cm, (4in) wide allowing 60cm (24in) between the drills, then cover over with soil and gently tamp down with the back of a rake. Harvest peas 11-15 weeks after sowing. This compact variety grows to just 60cm (24″) tall making it perfect for containers and small plots. Don’t feed your pea plants, just incorporate plenty of organic matter into the soil before planting. Harvest your peas every day to encourage more pod production.
