Description

Peanut is native to the Andean regions of South America but is now cultivated worldwide in tropical and subtropical areas. In Europe, it is grown commercially only in Cyprus. We ourselves have had good results in outdoor cultivation in Serbia ( Zone 6 ). In northern Europe, it must be cultivated in pots.

Sowing:  Indoors or in the spring directly. Prior to sowing soak seeds for 12 hours in warm water. Sow into moist, well-drained soil. Ideal temp. 20-25°C. Germinations takes 2 weeks approx. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, plant out after danger of frost has passed. Sow directly into prepared soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Keep moist until germination occurs. Prefers any moist but well-drained soil in the full or partial sun- it is not frosted tolerant.
