Description

Kalkora mimosa, Chinese Silk Tree

The most famous Persian tree. Albizia calcora grows as a shrub or tree form. It is not commercially available. The tree blooms from late June to October, covered with beautiful yellow-white flowers. Albizia blooms from the second or third year and the flowering becomes more abundant as Albizia ages. The leaves fold at night, which is why it is called a sleeping tree.
Half an hour before sunset, the leaves slowly close. The silk tree (also named for its silky fine flowers) is at home in a sheltered warm spot in full sun and is hardy. The more sun in the summer, the more it blooms and the new shoots will become stronger. It thrives best in a sheltered spot, either in direct sun or semi-shade. Albizia calcora does not make many demands on the soil as long as it is not too acidic. Pruning is not necessary, if you want to prune it then it is best to prune it at the end of March. Plants lose all their leaves in winter, young plants do not have lateral branches when they fall off after winter, which reappear in spring.
Protect young plants from frost until the stem is 2 cm or more in diameter, after which winter protection is no longer necessary. Hardiness zone 6a (-20ºC) and even lower when it hardens.

Sowing: First soak the seeds in water for 24 hours. Sow them in the sowing substrate at 20°C and keep the soil moist.
