Tropical fruit, which is the fruit of the tree of the same name. This plant originally comes from Sri Lanka and Indonesia, but it has been cultivated all over the world for 1000 years. The carambola tree is characterized by long rows of leaves and bright pink flowers. Its fruit has a very characteristic star shape, the color depends on the ripeness of the fruit, it varies from light green to yellow to light orange. Carambola has a very wide application in gastronomy. It is used for decoration, obtaining juices, sauces, syrups, cocktails, wine. The sweet type of carambola that is ripe is sweet, but not overly so since the fruit never has more than 4% sugar. They have a sour-sweet taste, which is difficult to compare, but it is associated with a taste that corresponds to a mix of apple, grape, pear and citrus. Unripe fruits are firmer and sour and taste like sour apples. Ripe carambola can also be used for cooking. In nature, the plant reaches 3-4m in a pot up to 2m. USDA Zone 9a: to -6.6 °C (20 °F)
