Description

Black Chokeberry

A shrubby species that can grow up to 2 m in height. During March, it opens white flowers, which attracts special attention, while in autumn the leaves become red-hot. It grows in clusters of about 20 berries with a diameter of about 1 cm. It can withstand up to -30 ° C. It is resistant to diseases and does not need chemical protection. It is rich in vitamin C, it also contains vitamins B2, B9 and E. It improves circulation, cleanses the blood, lowers high blood pressure, lowers blood sugar, speeds up the work of the thyroid gland, speeds up the work of the liver, soothes cramps and stomach pains. Ripe, sweet, and sour and slightly tart fruits of chokeberry can be eaten fresh or processed in the form of jams, juices, syrups, and other fruit desserts. It is often mixed with other fruits because it gives a rich aroma and a beautiful dark color.


Soak the seeds in water for 24 hours and then put them in a ziplock bag (which contains a little sand that must be moist all the time) and place them in the refrigerator for 4-12 weeks. After that period, the seeds are sown in a container, and covered with about 0.5-1 cm of purchased soil – it is necessary to maintain moderate soil moisture. Germinates very easily and quickly. Can be sown directly in the garden from autumn without stratification.
