Description
Echinops ritro a bullet thistle, blooms with striking blue bullet-shaped flowers in the period June-July. The height of Usually 80-100 cm, keep on a sunny, slightly calcareous bottom. Bees and butterflies adore Echinops. They are so undemanding that you will too. Equally fabulous in the garden or in a vase as a fresh or dried cut flower, their impressive profile brings intriguing definition to surrounding softer forms. Thriving in well-drained soil, even if it’s poor or sandy. Hardiness Zone: 3-9
Sowing: Sow into 50-cell flats or preferred seedling container, 6-8 weeks before planting out. Cover seeds enough to hold them in place, but not too deeply, as some light aids germination. Harden off and transplant outdoors once there is no danger of frost. Direct seed – Sow once the soil temperature has reached at least 65°F. Cover seeds lightly with soil. 14-21 days at 65-75°F (18-24°C ).
