Aster tripolium

Tripolium pannonicum

Sea Star is a perennial wildflower for moist, sunny locations with fleshy edible leaves.  A superb, tender, salty succulent with a complex sweet flavor with hints of iron and nut. Plant high 15-45 cm, blooming in July – flower heads like Michelmas daisies. The plant tolerates salt but does not need it.

Seed – surface sow in spring in a cold frame. Do not allow the compost to become dry. Pre-chilling the seed for two weeks can improve germination rates. Germination usually takes place within 2 – 4 weeks at 20°c in ideal condition but can take longer. When large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer.
