Description
Panicum Fontaine is an elegant ornamental grass, recognizable by its airy panicles that fan out like a fountain. Plant Fontaine early in the spring until midsummer, for a harvest 8 to 16 weeks later. Due to excellent basal branching, you will harvest many branches per plant. Because of its sturdy long stems with fresh green leaves and excellent vase life, Fontaine is very good to use as a bouquet filler or as a playful ingredient in arrangements. 70cm in height.
Sowing: Sow in April-May and/or late August-September
Best sown directly where they are to flower in spring. Grow in sun and in well-drained soil. Sow 6mm (¼in) deep in rows 30cm (12in) apart in well-cultivated soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Germination is occasionally slow, so be patient! Thin out the seedlings to 23cm (9in) apart. Replant the seedlings that have been removed.
Advice: Prepare a fine weed free seed bed, broadcast thinly onto the surface and lightly cover, water with a fine rose taking care not to wash the seed away. Some varieties can be sown indoors late winter or early autumn in cold frame and overwintered in pots in a cool greenhouse.
