Chards (lat. Beta vulgaris subsp. vulgaris var. vulgaris) are dark green leafy greens. It is a biannual vegetable which is grown for highly nutritious leaves . In the first year of growing the plant forms a rosette made up of many spirally arranged leaves . In the second year the plant forms a big flower spike that can be 2 meters tall. Chards, like other leafy greens, are very low in calories. It is rich in magnesium, iron and vitamins B and C.
