Description

Rubus idaeus

The raspberry is a popular healthy fruit. Plants are hardy perennials, Preferring the sunny, well-drained soils, USDA hardiness zones 2-10, plants will grow to heights between 36 and 60 inches, with a spread of 24 to 36 inches. Raspberries will bear fruit in the summer of their second growing season when planted from seed.

Sow at any time of the year into a sandy compost and cover thinly with sand or grit. No artificial heat is needed. Leave the tray in a cool spot and kept moist. Cold stratification: 3 months. Seeds generally germinate very slowly indeed usually appearing in the spring whenever sown, odd ones may come up at any time. Do not discard the seed tray. These fresh seeds can take up to 6-12 months for germination but usually need 1-2 months.
