Native to Asia and can be found in open meadows. Plants grow 2-3 feet tall and have medium-sized flowers with plum-colored petals and strongly hooked spurs. Excellent for the rock garden, beds, and borders.  Columbine is easy to grow perennials, and will often gently self-seed in your gardens, but not becoming invasive. This plant likes to live in sun to partial shade. Very hardy they are suitable for Zones 3 – 9. These beauties will attract an array of beneficial insects such as butterflies, bumblebees, hummingbirds, ladybugs & more. Good for cutting flowers.

Starting Indoors: Stratify for 3 weeks at 35-40°F in late winter. To stratify, place seeds between moist paper towels in a plastic bag and store in the refrigerator. Ten weeks before the last frost, remove pre-chilled seeds from the refrigerator and sow Cover with a humidity dome and keep at 50-70°F. Transplant seedlings as they appear; anywhere from 2-6 weeks—be patient.
Starting Outdoors: Sow in fall or early spring. Surface sow or barely cover.
